KIPP Stand Academy School Leader, Larry Hester, has the freedom to innovate in the way he manages and organizes, resulting in maximum effectiveness helping students learn.

MORE TIME:

KIPP Stand Academy is in session with extended hours daily during the school year, every other Saturday during the school year, and for three weeks in the summer, meaning our students are in school learning 60 % more than average public school students.

KIPP Stand Academy, (part of the KIPP Minnesota Region) located in Minneapolis, is part of the nation-wide “Knowledge Is Power Program” which is a network of free, open- enrollment public schools which is committed to the same philosophies of no shortcuts and high expectations for students. We currently have a 5th and 6th grade and will be growing into a 7th grade in the 2010-2011 academic year. Nationally, KIPP provides 82 charter schools for underserved kids in 19 different states and the District of Columbia serving over 21,000 students.

KIPP STAND’s primary goal is to prepare all of the students for success in college and beyond. To do that, we are focused on ensuring our students develop both the academic skills and the character necessary to help them define what they stand for. Through a culture of high expectations, we seek to instill in our students the values of integrity, self-awareness, grit, pride and fun.

In every subject in both grades, our KIPPsters made over a year’s growth in one academic year. More time at KIPP Stand Academy is paying off with a great rate of growth and closing in on the achievement gap for our students. KIPPsters made huge gains this year, and even greater gains will be made next year to ensure our kids climb the mountain to college.
