Our School

Who We Are

KIPP Stand Academy, is the first school in the KIPP Minnesota Region located in Minneapolis. It is part of the nation-wide “Knowledge Is Power Program” which is a network of free, open- enrollment public schools which is committed to the same philosophies of no shortcuts and high expectations for students. We currently have 5th through 8th grade in the 2011-2012 academic year. Nationally, KIPP provides 99 charter schools for underserved kids in 20 different states and the District of Columbia serving over 26,000 students.

What We Do

KIPP Stand’s primary goal is to prepare all of the students for success in college and beyond. To do that, we are focused on ensuring our students develop both the academic skills and the character necessary to help them define what they stand for. Through a culture of high expectations, we seek to instill in our students the values of honor, curiosity, tenacity and joy.

At KIPP Stand Academy our teachers are unified in doing what's best for students and closing race and income based on achievement gaps for students. Our teachers share best practices and collaborate as a school and with a powerful network of almost 2,000 teachers nationally.

KIPP

KIPP Stand Academy will empower each student to develop the character traits, knowledge, and skills to excel in competitive high schools, colleges, and the world beyond. Our students will Stand for their beliefs, become their best selves, and help build a better tomorrow.

Our Pillars

KIPP schools share a core set of operating principles known as the Five Pillars.

HIGH EXPECTATIONS: KIPP Schools set clearly defined and measurable high expectations for academic achievement and character that make no excuses based on students’ background.

CHOICE & COMMITMENT: Each member of the KIPP Stand Academy community including parents, students, and teachers signs a ‘commitment to excellence form’ pledging the effort necessary for success

RESULTS: KIPP Schools focus on a high level of student performance on standardized tests and other objective measures and emphasize continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

POWER TO LEAD: KIPP Stand Academy School Leader, Kendra Kecker, has the freedom to innovate in the way she manages and organizes, resulting in maximum effectiveness helping students learn.

MORE TIME: KIPP Stand Academy is in session with extended hours daily during the school year, every other Saturday during the school year, and for three weeks in the summer, meaning our students are in school learning 60 % more than average public school students.
