Cam Winton

Chair Dorsey & Whitney LLP, Attorney

Cam Winton joined the board in November, 2014. Cam is an attorney with Dorsey and Whitney LLP in the Firm's Regulatory Affairs Group. Prior to joining Dorsey and Whitney he was the Director of Energy and Labor-Management Policy for the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce. Previously, he served as an attorney in the power-generation industry and with Robins, Kaplan, Miller, & Ciresi L.L.P. in Minneapolis. Cam attended public school from kindergarten through 12th grade, then earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics, and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. He and his wife have three young children. They live in Minneapolis, where Cam was a candidate for mayor in 2013.



Jim Hurley

Vice Chair
Procter & Gamble, Vice President (retired)

Jim Hurley joined the Board in June 2017. He has been a supporter of KIPP for several years in fund raising efforts and as a member of our Development Committee. Jim is a retired Vice President of the Procter & Gamble Company. In his 33 years at Procter and Gamble Jim served in a variety of roles in their Sales, Marketing, and Organizational Design operations. Jim also has prior board and educational support experiences as board member of INROADS Inc, a Trustee board member at Transylvania University, and an Advisory board member of the American Youth Foundation in Cincinnati Ohio. Jim is a graduate of Transylvania University with a BA Math, and BA Psychology.



Renee I. Uzong, JD

Secretary 3M, Sourcing Legal Specialist

Renee I. Uzong, J.D. joined the board in June 2016, and has been involved with the school since May 2015. She is currently a Sourcing Legal Specialist with 3M. Previously, she worked at Robert Half Legal where she spent three years as a direct hire recruiter in the Minneapolis-St. Paul market. Prior to Robert Half Legal, she practiced as a family law attorney. Renee was born and raised in the Twin Cities and lived and studied in Spain. She earned her B.A. from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and a J.D. from Hamline University School of Law. She enjoys volunteering and spending time with her nephew. She currently resides in Minneapolis.


Kristine Straumann

Ernst & Young, Senior Manager - ITS

Kristine Straumann is a Senior Manager at Ernst & Young in Minneapolis, MN. She is a first generation college graduate, having received her B.A. in Economics from Gustavus Adolphus College and her Masters of International Affairs - Economics from Texas A&M University. Over the past year, Kristine has become involved with KIPP in fund raising efforts and as a member of the Development Committee. Kristine is passionate about music and enjoys playing the piano and singing in her church choir. She and her husband, Adam, live in northeast Minneapolis with their dog, Rosie.


Lisa Dunlap

Community Representative Adults and Children's Alliance, Executive Director

Lisa Dunlap joined the board in June, 2012 as the Parent Representative. She started volunteering with Pillsbury United Communities in 2004, started a Walking Club and winning a Meritorious Neighborhood Service Award. Lisa has worked for Pillsbury United Communities Oak Park Center for the last six years running Health & Wellness programs that include her Walking Club that was funded in 2005. She has since re-framed the Walking Club into the Families in Motions program to help families work against obesity, diabetes and other diseases that are prevalent in traditionally underserved populations. Lisa is a Certified Smoking Cessation Counselor and Community Health Worker. She is a Girl Scout Leader and mom to two growing girls. Lisa is currently the Youth Program Coordinator at Oak Park.


Paul Muldoon

Community Representative WaterStone Bank, Vice President

Paul Muldoon joined the Board in October 2018. He is an active supporter of KIPP and serves on the Facilities Committee. Paul is a Vice President at WaterStone Bank and is a regional manager of their commercial real estate lending operations. He has over 30 years experience in commercial real estate finance, development, leasing and consulting. He has a BS and MS from the University of Wisconsin Real Estate Program. He and his wife have two children and live in the western suburbs. His family enjoys sports, travel and the arts and are active community volunteers.


Michael A. Shelton

Parent Representative Northside Achievement Zone, Family Achievement Coach

Michael A. Shelton is a long-time resident of North Minneapolis and father of a 2nd grader at KIPP North Star Primary, a 12th grader at De LaSalle High School, and a 22 year old. Mike is passionate about his community and supporting youth initiatives. Mike uses his skills and passion to devise and implement a wide range of strategies to empower and encourage families in Minneapolis. As a Family Achievement Coach for the Northside Achievement Zone, he works with wide variety of families from all walks of life. Mike was born and raised in North Minneapolis where he attended North Community High School. After graduating from North, Mike attended Suomi College, in Hancock, Michigan where he studied Hotel Restaurant Management. Mike started coaching in 1999 at Patrick Henry High School and subsequently coached at Dunwoody Academy, Park Center, and North High School where is now the Junior Varsity Coach. Mike also runs a nonprofit, Heritage Youth Sports Foundation, where the mission is “Changing lives and community through sport”.


Margie Soran

Community Representative Soran Foundation, Executive Director

Margie Soran brings her organizational experience and passion for working with children and families to her work as an educator and community volunteer.  Her education and career history was focused on music education for children where she was a secondary vocal music teacher and children’s choir director for 25 years. Margie has involved herself as a community volunteer, activist for children and families, and as a nonprofit board member.  The current boards are: The Family Partnership, The Minneapolis Foundation, Dougherty Family College, Close Gaps by Five, and MNComeback.  Margie brings organizational and leadership skills to the board and is focused on strengthening organizations and finding solutions to increase effectiveness.  

John Slifer

Community Representative Wells Fargo Asset Management, Managing Director (retired)

John Slifer is a retired Managing Director at Wells Fargo Asset Management. John joined the KIPP board in August 2019 and serves on the finance committee. While employed at Wells Fargo, his primary role was in business and relationship development for institutional investors. John has served on several for profit and non profit boards over his career. He is a firm believer in the power of education to transform lives.

He and his wife Michele have two adult children, and he divides his time between St. Paul and his family’s cabin near Ely, MN where he is involved in reforestation projects.
